Vaccine Ready

Why you may hear two different schedules

Official vaccine advice changed several times in 2026. Here is what happened, in order.

  1. January 2026

The CDC cut the number of diseases on its routine childhood list from 17 to 11, moving others to high-risk groups or shared decisions with a doctor.

  2. January 26, 2026

The American Academy of Pediatrics kept routine protection against 18 diseases in its own schedule. Many states and medical groups backed it.

  3. March 16, 2026

A federal court paused the CDC's January changes while a lawsuit continues, which put the earlier routine recommendations back in place.

  4. After March 2026

The federal government appealed. The final outcome may change the official schedule again.

What this means for your family

DC Health says it follows the federal advisory committee's schedule. Because the rules are still in court, check the latest from these sources and ask your child's doctor.
