How AI was used
Student-led. AI-assisted. I set the purpose, led the research and design, shaped the plan, and guided co-development and testing. AI helped carry out that direction.
1. What the AI builder wrote
Lovable drafted much of the code from my plans and revisions. AI also helped review official websites, draft translations and run automated checks. I directed the work and the changes. Translation review by native speakers is still needed.
2. What AI does inside the app
The clinic suggester and question helper use Lovable AI Gateway with an OpenAI model. They are instructed to use verified facts and clinic data, but can make mistakes. Check important answers with DC Health or your clinic.
3. What the student did
- Idea and purpose: I created the idea: help DC families find vaccine rules and nearby clinics in their language.
- Research and fact checking: I led the research direction, chose official sources and required unconfirmed clinic details to be clearly marked.
- Design choices: I led the design choices: the Vaccine Ready name, DC-inspired colors, fonts, maps, language controls and phone-friendly pages.
- Plan and revisions: I shaped the plan, narrowed the app to DC and requested repeated revisions to improve clarity and usefulness.
- Co-development and technical direction: I co-developed the app with AI assistance, defining features and directing changes to how the app works. AI drafted much of the code.
- Testing and what was learned: I guided testing priorities and requested repeated reviews of phone layouts, languages, clinic search, maps and dark mode.
Zara's contribution
- First version: Zara built the first home page and a simple clinic list page on Replit, using HTML, CSS and a little JavaScript. It also had a basic search box that did not yet filter the list. That version was later rewritten in Lovable and is no longer online.
- Starting data: Zara wrote the first translations file in English, Arabic and Spanish, and typed up the original clinic list from public websites. Today's 11 language word list grew from her file, and the clinic list was later checked against DC Health's official list.
- Testing and feedback: After the move to Lovable, Zara tested the app on her phone and laptop, checked menu words in the languages she knows, pointed out Arabic spelling mistakes, and asked for a bigger search bar and easier to read clinic names.
What is not claimed: Zara did not write the build plan and did not add new code after the move to Lovable, so those are not listed here.
